Mozilla has launched Keon and Peak, two smartphones based on the web-centric Firefox OS platform, asking developers to test Firefox OS mobile operating system. In a blog post Tuesday, Mozilla’s director of websites and developer engagement, Stormy Peters, introduced the first two smartphone models, which are being made by a company called Geeksphone in partnership with the Spanish telecom major Telefonica.
Analysts say Mozilla’s phones will be relatively cheap and available around the world.
The Keon is has a 1GHz processor, with a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a 3-megapixel camera. The Peak is more powerful with its dual-core 1.2GHz processor. It also has a 4.3-inch screen and an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. Both the models have a common 4GB of integrated storage which can be expanded using a MicroSD card.

What is Firefox OS?
Firefox OS is an open source mobile operating system, being developed by Mozilla. It is also referred to by its codename "Boot to Gecko" or "B2G". Firefox OS is a Linux-based OS that boots up into a Gecko-based environment.
For Web developers, the most important part to understand is that the entire user interface is a Web app, one that is capable of displaying and launching other Web apps. Every user-facing element of Firefox OS, from the UI (Gaia), to the dialer, to the apps, is programmed using open web technologies — HTML, JavaScript, and CSS — and rendered using Gecko.
Gecko is the name of the layout engine developed by the Mozilla Project. Gecko's function is to read web content, such as HTML, CSS, XUL, JavaScript, and render it on user's screen or print it. In XUL-based applications Gecko is used to render the application's user interface as well.
Firefox OS is currently under heavy development.
